Halle Berry won an Oscar for her performance in Monster’s Ball, while Coronji Calhoun Sr served as the inspiration behind all of the film. The actor who played Halle’s father died on February 4th at age 86.

Coronji Calhoun Sr, who co-starred with Halle Berry in Monster’s Ball, has died at the age of 31.
Former child actor who portrayed Berry’s kid in the 2001 film for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress, becoming her the first and only African-American actress to do so.
Calhoun died of heart failure and lung difficulties, according to local sources, and his mother, Theresa Bailey, revealed the news of his death while setting up a GoFundMe for his burial costs.
‘On October 13, 2021, Coronji Calhoun Sr. joined the ancestors in looking over me and my family,’ she stated.
In the 2001 Academy Award-winning film Monster’s Ball, he played Tyrell, the son of Lawrence (Sean “P. Diddy” Combs) and Leticia Musgrove (Halle Berry).
‘Unfortunately, we had no life insurance policy on him before he transitioned (since we never imagined this catastrophe to happen to us). Now, as we prepare to offer Coronji a holy life celebration, we beg for your generosity in your gifts.’
‘Thank you for your prayers, calls, messages, and selfless support,’ she said.
Berry and Monster’s Ball director Lee Daniels both donated $3,394 (£2,500) to the campaign, which surpassed its $10,000 (£7,500) goal.
‘On behalf of the Calhoun and Bailey families, I would like to thank each and every person who found it in their hearts to provide the much-needed financial help to put Coronji Sr. to rest,’ the family said in a subsequent update.
‘We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of affection given by the community and Coronji’s adoptive family during our time of mourning.’

‘Although the financial burden has been eased, my family and I continue to grieve the death of my son.’ As we come to the end of this chapter, we ask that you commemorate Coronji by loving your neighbor as yourself, for that is what he did for his whole town.’
Berry had previously discussed working with the young actor in Monster’s Ball, in which she portrayed his violent mother.
‘That part was really difficult for me because he’s a genuine young child with a real weight problem and he has real problems around it himself,’ she stated at the time the film was published.
