Seattle Seahawks ‘ Former First Player in NFL History to be Cut
The Seattle Seahawks have released former first-round pick Barkevious Mingo after he was arrested for attempted robbery and resisting arrest, according to a report from ESPN.com. The team decided not to move forward with the linebacker’s contract following his release on Monday morning.
Mingo has been suspended by the league since last year when he was picked up on charges of aggravated battery, domestic violence and false imprisonment stemming from an Aug. 9 incident that left someone injured at a Raleigh hotel where they were celebrating their victory over New England in Super Bowl 51., according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports
The “seattle seahawks roster cuts” is a recent move by the Seattle Seahawks. The team has parted ways with former first round pick, Malik McDowell.,
Getty To rescue their season, the Seahawks have their work cut out for them.
Following the dismissal of wide receiver Phillip Dorsett and running back B.J. Emmons, the Seattle Seahawks now have two available roster slots on their practice squad. Dorsett’s departure is the most noticeable, as the wideout was slated to fight for a spot as the team’s third wide out in 2020. Unfortunately, Dorsett had a foot injury that necessitated surgery and forced him to miss the whole season.
Head coach Pete Carroll said at his postseason news conference that the club hoped to bring back Dorsett in 2021, but the receiver signed with the Jaguars in the summer. Dorsett’s time with the Jaguars was brief, as he was released after just one appearance in September.
Dorsett was signed to the practice squad by the Seahawks on October 1st, and his second tenure with the organization lasted less than two months. Dorsett only appeared in two games, the most recent of which was in Week 6 when he had one grab for three yards, his sole catch with the Seahawks.

Carroll said Dorsett as the fastest player he has ever coached while with the Seahawks.
Carroll lauded Dorsett during the 2020 training camp before to his injury. Dorsett was the “fastest person we’ve ever had here,” according to Carroll. Dorsett has the stats to back up his claim, running the 40 yard dash in 4.27 seconds during Miami’s pro day ahead of the 2015 NFL draft. Dorsett’s pre-draft performance boosted his status, and the Colts picked him with the No. 29 selection in the first round.
“He’s the quickest man we’ve ever had here,” Carroll said during a news conference on August 20, 2020. “He runs through time worlds we don’t even believe exist, like 4.2s and such.” Russ is a significant element for us in our system because of the way he loves to blast the football.
“In fact, we’re just about to install some things in the next couple of days that will really emphasize some of those sorts of plays, and I’m very excited to see how he fits in.” Tyler has been fantastic at it in the past, and to be complimented with all of that speed on the field at the same time, D.K., Tyler, and Phillip, is a huge honor. It’s rather dynamic, but he’s done a fantastic job, as you can see. He’s supported us [the defense] on a handful of occasions.”
The Seahawks have released Emmons twice in 2021.
Emmons had just signed with the Seahawks on November 24, so this is an unpleasant conclusion for him. Emmons was a highly regarded running back coming into college, and he spent his freshman year at Alabama. Emmons played for Florida Atlantic under Lane Kiffin after a short community college career.
The Seahawks dismissed Emmons for the second time this season, after the running back was previously cut in June. Emmons then attended training camp with the Raiders and had a chance to play with the Seahawks due to recent running back injuries.
Josh Johnson, an undrafted rookie, was promoted by the Seahawks prior of the team’s Week 12 showdown against Washington. Despite the fact that Johnson did not have a carry, the Seahawks only had 12 total runs in their defeat. Johnson’s talent has been praised by Carroll, so it will be interesting to see whether he can crack the rotation before the season concludes.
Carroll said Seahawks.com, “He’s been a terrific attack sort of player.” “He slams into the line of scrimmage with a vengeance. If you recall from preseason, when he had a few opportunities, he caught the ball really well, making him one of our greatest catchers. He’s a physical kid, a little lower to the ground than some of the others, a little less makeup than some of the men, but he has a really physical style that we appreciate.”
