There’s a lot of talk in the EVE community lately, with CCP announcing a major overhaul to its skill plans system. Most importantly, CCP is changing the skill plan system to be more flexible in terms of how players can interact with it. Under the new system, players will no longer have to procure skill plans in-game. Instead, they will be able to interact with the new skill plan system in-game, in order to plan out their skill training.
CCP Games isn’t done tweaking EVE Online’s skill system yet: It revealed its plans for your plans this week — your skill plans, to be precise. As part of a patch that also changes the training queue UI, the feature will be available in September and will “allow you to build, share, and interact with purposefully designed lists of abilities inside the client.”
“What the fitting window is to ship fitting, the Skill Plans feature is to skill training. You may use the fitting simulator to achieve the perfect fit,” CCP advises.
“In order to view the ultimate objective, neither the ship nor the modules must be bought first. You can create a list of abilities using the Skill Plans tool without having to purchase and inject them first. A Skill Plan is a list of skill levels with specific objectives that you can develop and monitor to help you stay on track with your training. One of the reasons for this function is the unlimited planning of your character’s growth. Another motivation for its creation was to allow gamers to exchange skill lists with one another. […] Each of your characters will have the ability to store up to 10 Personal Skill Plans, which you may monitor, modify, and share with your friends (or alts!).”
The system’s milestone sub-goals, UI changes, and “certified skill plans” – that is, tried-and-true skill tracks for newcomers who don’t actually know what they’re doing and require something beginner-friendly – are all detailed in the long dev blog.
